Build Public Understanding & Demand Lawrence Public Schools

Lawrence Public Schools

Lawrence Public Schools (LPS) is a mid-sized urban school district that serves approximately 12,000 students. In November 2011, Lawrence became the first school district in the Commonwealth to enter receivership status. Receivership created an unprecedented opportunity for the district to embark upon an effective, dramatic turnaround effort. The receivership has currently been renewed for an additional three years and an end date has not been designated. The mission of the turnaround plan and LPS is to close the opportunity and academic gap between our students and their peers across the Commonwealth. They seek to achieve this through a common vision for high-quality instruction, a re-imagined urban school system, and a close collaboration with the Lawrence community.
